Wide-spread unemployment is the worst and gruesome reality which the present world is confronting. The conditions of the developed countries including even G8 like, America, Great Britain, and France etc. are getting bad to worse due to this social and economic evil. It has eaten away the economy of the world enormously. No country of the world has been able to escape itself from its cruel and sinister clutches.

Pakistan is also facing the crushing pressure of this economic evil. About 1.27 million people were declared unemployed in the census held in 1991 and every year there is an induction of eight hundred thousand new entrants into labouring class. So, it is an uphill enterprise to create jobs for this huge number of un-employed portion of the total population. Let's have a profound glance at the key factors which have helped sprout out this nuisance in Pakistan.

In this respect the ominous role of un-checked population cannot be overlooked. Ever year the number of people born is greater than the number of people died due to better medical facilities. That's why Pakistan's population is getting multiplied year after year and it has posed a big challenge to the poor economy of Pakistan to tackle with. This huge unemployed population worsens law and order situation and the economic activities of the country have been hampered badly.

Our sole industrial base is Karachi but during the last fifteen years wide-spread violence and terrorism has not only stopped the, domestic investors but also the foreign investors to invest heavily in Pakistan and this has further aggravated the economic situation. Our socalled education system has also contributed lavishly to this high rate of unemployment. Our education system has done nothing practically to produce skilled.

Instead it has produced un-skilled class. So, the need of the hour is that, we should promote educated as well as skilled approach. The choice of career is also not based on reality. In many highly developed countries the youth feel no hesitation in indulging themselves in any sort of activity which would help them in coining their bread and butter. But in Pakistan, our youth are getting education just to get lucrative government jobs. Quite naturally, the country cannot cater for them, so they prefer to be unemployed rather than keeping them selves enjoyed in our way or the other.

The use of modern machinery and technology in various walks of life has also added to this problem tremendously. It has upset the long existing balance between the man power and old worn out machinery. The frequent strikes and petty scuffles between the owners and the employers have forced the owners to go for automation and opt for modern technology. The poor infrastructure is also account for this economic evil.

Pakistan has failed so for to do any thing phenomenal in the fields of power, transportation, communication and  telecommunication.

The industrialists feel inconvenient and uncomfortable, if they asked to set up new industries across the country. The smugglers have done a huge loss to the economy of Pakistan by flooding the main markets with cheaper stuffs and it puts the survival and of the local industry to stake.

The in-sufficient credit facilities, complicated tax system and the tight control of corrupt bureaucracy on economy are constantly creating obstacles in the way of private sector. The rural unemployed youth, when find no proper job in their localities, move to ixban areas for some good jobs. This sort of approach has further enhanced the gravity of the problem. The key factors behind the unemployment in our rural areas are population explosion and loss of good productive land. Social, political and psychological problems are the consequences of this wide scale un-employment.

It is simply due to this that our youth have turned to drug-addiction, violence, terrorism and many other social problems. As they have raw-minds, they can easily be swallowed bait and engaged in gruesome and sinister activities by the terrorists, drug-traffickers and smuggles as well.

 Remedies:

If we want to withstand this wide-scale unemployment in the country. Our high authorities must positively put their heads together to find out perennial solution to this heinous evil. We should accelerate the pace of industrial development by improving the law and order situation. The dire need of the hour is that we should reshape and revise the education system so as to produce more specialized and technically qualified men-power. Un-employment can be eliminated by launching self-employment schemes. Small industries should be set up and promoted in rural and under-developed areas.
